History
American Airlines was founded in 1930 as American Airways and was commenced in operations in 1934. American Airline was the result of various consolidations of eighty two small airlines. Until 1933 the airline was executing business of carrying U.S. mails, serving in seventy two American cities. The company was re-named to American Air Lines in 1934 when it was acquired by the E. L. Cord.
