The company started health insurance service for SERS members in 1962, and after five years in 1967 changed name into the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS). There were some confusions with that name in other states, so the organization decided to change name in California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) in 1992. In 2007-08, 10.88 billion dollar was given in retirement advantages. Until March 2013, the organization has handled the biggest pension fund in the country, having 257.4 billion dollars of total property.
