History
Canara Bank was established in the year 1906 as Canara Bank Hindu Permanent Fund by Ammembal Subba Rao Pai in Mangalore, Karnataka. The Bank was incorporated in the year 1910 and was renamed as the Canara Bank Limited. After the nationalization of Bank in the year 1969, the bank was named as the Canara Bank. Canara Bank acquired the Bank of Kerala in the year 1961 and later the bank also acquired Seasia
Midland Bank. The Canara Bank acquired many other banks and in the year 1996 the bank got ISO Certification for “Total Branch Banking” for one of its branches in Bangalore and it was the first
Indian Bank to get this certification. The International Division was started by the bank in the year 1976. The first offshore office of the Canara Bank was established in London, United Kingdom in the year 1983 and other offshore offices of the bank are located in Shanghai, Moscow, Dubai, New York, Doha and Hong Kong.
