History
The activities of CDC have been in operation under various names since its foundation in 1940s. Its first preceddor was Office of Malaria Control in War Areas which was replaced by Communicable Diseases Center in 1946 to control Malaria in the USA. In 1957, CDC has been assigned to stop STD (Sexually Transmitted Diseases) from prevailing. From 1967 Commincable Diseases Center started to be known as National Commicable Disease Center followed by its renaming as Center for Disease Control in 1970. It was again renamed as Centers for Disease Control in 1980 and "prevention" word was added to the title in 1992.
