Churchs Chicken was opened by George W. Church on 17th of April 1952 and under the name of Church's Fried Chicken to Go. Initially, it was engaged in the fried chicken and in 1955, it started providing of jalapenos and French fries. In 1956, the founder died and that time it had only four restaurants across the nation. In 1989, the company merged with the
Popeyes Chicken and Biscuits, which made it the second largest chain of chicken restaurant. It was first under the ownership of AFC Enterprises and in 2004, it became chain of Arcapita. In August 2009, Arcapita sold it to Friedman Fleischer & Lowe.
