History
The company was founded by Imperial Oil as Interprovincial Pipeline Limited. On 30th of April 1949 at Leduc, Alberta, Canada and the company built first pipeline Leduc to Regina, Saskatchewan in the same year. Within a year, pipeline expanded through Gretna, Manitoba to Superior, Wisconsin, U.S.A. The company changed name to Interprovincial Pipeline Inc. in 1991 whereas in 1992, the company was acquired by Interprovincial Pipeline System Inc., who changes name to IPL energy Inc. in 1994 after they acquired Consumer Gas Company.
Enbridge bought the Sarnia Photovoltaic Power Plant in 2009 and expanded power capacity up to 80 MW.
Operations
The company operates crude oil, liquids and natural gas transmission in length of 29000 km and 17670 km in Canada and U.S.A. respectively. Enbridge Inc. transport 2.2 million barrels of crude oil per day in Canada. Several new expansion and capacities projects include construction of Northern Gateway, expansion of

Wind farms, four solar energy operations and a geothermal project to renew energy. Enbridge also owns power transmission business to facilitate the import and export of power.
