Echostar began Dish Network in 1996 as one of its services which was set up in 1980 by Charlie Ergen to provide C band satellite television systems. It was allowed to provide direct broadcast satellite services in 1992 by Federal Communications Commission. In 1995, Echostar launched its maiden satellite Echostar I with the establishment of satellite connecting center in Wyoming. Since then, Echostar has launched over ten satellites to the space. After forming of Dish Network, it has crossed 100,000 customers by July 1996 while has been subscribed to over one million customers in the end of 1997. Dish was Pioneer to introduce a 500 channel satellite TV system, DISH 500 in 1999. Echostar launched Dish in Canada as Dish Network Canada through the joint venture with Bell Canada in the same year.
