Elitch Gardens initially openedon May 1st, 1890, on 16 sections of land (6.5 ha) of previous farmland purchased by
John Elitch and Mary Elitch.
Elitch Gardens was the first zoo west of Chicago, and it offered the Denver group an one of a kind social ordeal.
