Sat night last - had prolonged nosebleed. Contacted Shannondoc
No doctor available. Was told to go to Limerick Regional. My husband drove us in. 1st part procedure carried out. Waited several hours, it was early morning hours. Asked nurse what was happening - she told me 19 hour delay before doc could even start, there was a queue. No point staying. Ws told if bleeding started again, go to another hospital. Called galway clinic. No ENT doc available for entire week starting Mon July 9. We are an elderly couple, can not ask my husband to drive to different hospitals, especially during the night. I was worried, bleeding had already lasted approx three hrs and I felt dizzy. We pay the high cost of VHI because we need to be sure we have cover when we need it. There is no fault on the nursing staff of any of the hospitals I contacted, I wondered how they could cope to handle these serious problems over which they have no control. There is something seriously wrong with the Health Service.
