HP Notebook is a line of personal computers that have been designed, manufactured and distributed by an Information Technology giant Hewlett-Packard (in short HP). It includes a wide range of laptops of various series including Pavilion, Envy etc. Besides computer products business, the company also engaged in manufacturing printers, software products, converged cloud products, digital cameras, scanners, Mobile phones, plotters and Pocket calculators, workstations, servers, USB flash drives, external and internal disk drives and other related accessories. The company has customers in every business sector including government offices, education, health, finance and banking. HP has direct or indirect presence in a number of countries across Asia, Europe, Africa, Australia, North and South America.
The history of the company dates back to 1939, when two American engineers William Redington Hewlett and David Packard, gave birth to a small business in a car garage of Packard in Pal Alto. The Founders were confused about the company's name that whether it would be Hewlett-Packard or Packard-Hewlett and as a result, they tossed and gave the name Hewlett-Packard. The nascent company initially produced audio oscillator with HP200A its first product. A global mass media company The Walt Disney Company was one among the earlier customers of the company which purchased eight 200B oscillators for improving its sound systems. The initial focus of the company was in electronic fields and manufactured a large number of products including thermometers, oscilloscopes, time standards, signal generators, frequency counters and voltmeters.
In the 1960s, the company entered into an agreement with Yokogawa Electric and Sony for producing high-quality products, which failed because of high prices. After that, HP in 1963 joined hands with Yokogawa and created Yokogawa-Hewlett-Packard and as a result launched its products in the Japanese market. In 1986, it made an internet presence HP.com and later started online shopping services. In the 1990s, the company started focusing towards computer products business and its main Target was university, business and research industries. In 1989, Hewlett-Packard stepped up with the acquisition of Apollo Computer and later in 1995, it completed the purchase of Convex Computer. 2002 was the year when Hewlett-Packard purchased the assets of an another personal computer company Compaq Computer Corporation and continued selling the desktop and laptops under the brand Compaq.
In the Fortune magazine's Fortune 500 in 2009, the company was at 9th place. Moreover, the Ethisphere Institute recognized HP among the list of Most Ethical Companies in the world in 2010. For the year 2013, HP was the second largest Personal Computer vendor in the world as per unit sales. The company sponsored a number of sport events and teams including North Melbourne Football Club, Tottenham Hotspur F.C., BMW Williams Formula One team etc. From 1995 till 1998, HP was the sponsor of Tottenham Hotspur. The company has more than 318,000 employees throughout the world. The corporate headquarter of the company is situated in Palo Alto, California, in the United States.
