It controls nearly 5,264 distribution poles, 2,182 transformers, 16 distribution substations and 1,056 underground structures. Company's History
The Kingston Electric Light Company started its journey in the year 1886. Kingston Hydro Corporation was previously known as Kingston Electricity Distribution
Limited that took possession over the former
Hydro Electric Utility Commission. It setup its electric light production facility in 1888 at the foot of Brock Street, mainly for street lighting and changed its location to Queen Street in 1892. Later, the Queen Street location is also operated as distribution substation and serves many locations.
