NFTA is an abbreviated form of Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority. It administers and controls the public transportation operations in Niagara and Erie counties in the US state of New York. There are a number of agencies and properties that are operated by the authority, such as the Niagara Falls International Airport, the NFTA Metro Bus and rail system, the NFTA Small Boat Harbor and the Buffalo Metropolitan Transportation Center. The history of the authority dates back to 1923, when a private company, International Bus Company was formed as the Buffalo's First Bus service provider. It 1950, the Niagara Frontier Transit System was founded and it took over the operations of International Bus Company. After 17 years, its name has been changed to the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority Corporation (in short NFTA).
