NSDL stands for National Securities Depository Limited, which is a central securities depository. It was setup in 1995, operates from Mumbai, India. Institutions of National Stature promotes this depository which is also responsible for economic development of the country. The company started operation in November, 1996 to establish infrastructure for international standards to handle all securities held. The century old capital market of India that had to face bad delivery and delayed transfer of the title, and thus there was the need to setup depository which is fast and reliable.

Nsdl has introduced SPEED-e. Any contributor of Nsdl can subscribe to SPEED-e. SPEED-e authorize demat account holder in order to submit delivery guidelines directly on the internet by website of SPEED-e which is https://eservices.nsdl.com. The benefits of SPEED-e can use only those contributors who have subscribed this and those customers sign an agreement with the contributor. The account holder can access the SPEED-e as a password or as a e-token user. A associate should have a e-token user so that he can easily use SPEED-e.
