Telus is a Canadian telecommunication company whose headquarters is situated in Burnaby, British Columbia. Telus provides wide range of telecommunication products and services like internet access, voice, entertainment, healthcare, satellite television and many more. British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and Quebec are the major market areas of the company. In 2013, there were 43,400 employees working in the company. Operating income of Telus in 2011 was $ 2.0 billion. CDMA 2000, IDEN, HSPA+ and LTE based Mobile phone networks are offered by Telus’s wireless division, Telus Mobility. Telus is also member of the British Columbia Technology Industry Association.
History
In 1990, the Government of
Alberta created Telus Communications as a holding company in order to facilitate the privatization of a crown corporation, the Alberta Government Telephones Commission. In 1995, Telus Communications acquired Edmonton Telephone services whereas after a year in 1996, the company was introduced as consumer brand. Telus and BCTel merged in 1999 with the name Telus Corporation. Clearnet Communications was acquired by the Telus in 2000, which was high performing cellular company in Ontario and Quebec at that time.
Telus Mobility launched the Clearnet brand as a
Limited market trial in Kelowna, British Columbia and Alberta in April, 2011 but, closed it in June 2012.
Telus International
Telus also has a global arm known as Telus International who provides global contact centre and business process outsourcing services to corporations in the financial services, consumer electronics, utilities industries and telecommunications whereas Telus International has contact centres in the Philippines, the United Kingdom, USA, Central
America and Eastern Europe.
