The University of Canterbury is the public research center and the second oldest university in the New Zealand. It was founded in 1873. The University works under the motto "Ergo tua rura manebunt". It offers various academic courses for undergraduates and postgraduates. It provides the facility of Arts stream, engineering, fine arts, physical education, forestry, health science, music, Law, social works, speech and language pathology, Science, teaching and commerce. There are 735 faculties in the University. It provides the tertiary-level education and library facility. The educational center was renamed from Canterbury College to Canterbury University College in 1993. In 1957 the name was again renamed to the present University of Canterbury. The University also provides various games for physical fitness of the students such as Basketball, Tennis and Volleyball.
