The University of Waterloo was founded in the year 1925 under the name Waterloo College. It was renamed as the Waterloo College Associate Faculties in 1956. The college has been granted with the university status in 1960 and the name was given 'University of Waterloo'. With the development of the university, it became the largest research university around the country. The university is made up with six faculties and ten faculty-based schools. It is authorized by the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada.
Its major campus is situated in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada which is spread in an area of around 404 hectares. It comprises Three main areas namely Northwest Campus, South Campus and North Campus. It has four libraries which has a large collection of over 1.4 million books, e-books and electronic resources. The university also gives accommodation facility to the students through its seven residential halls consisting Columbia Lake North and South, UW Place, Mackenzie King Village, Ron Eydt Village and the Minota Hagey Residence. In addition to this, the University of Waterloo also offers sports facilities to the students. Its athletic teams are called as the 'Waterloo Warriors' and participate in various sports including Canadian football, hockey, rugby, curling, field hockey, basketball, figure skating and many more.
